Context Pack 1.2.0 release notes

Context Pack 1.2.0 is available on the Chrome Web Store. This release adds Markdown Preview, bounded dashboard capture, and clearer capture recovery without new permissions.

Markdown and Preview

  • Build the pack, then choose Markdown to edit or Preview to read the same output.
  • Preview is read-only. Copy Markdown and Download .md always use the editable Markdown.
  • HTML is shown literally and images are represented by alt text; no remote images are loaded.
  • Preview parsing and rendering have time, size and complexity limits. A failed preview leaves valid raw Markdown available for editing and export.
  • Source changes clear stale output and Preview; build again to refresh both. The first-run guide explains the new tabs.

More dashboard meaning

  • Capture supported visible action labels and actual disabled states.
  • Retain valid pressed/mixed and expanded/collapsed states, plus visible non-editable choice labels.
  • Preserve existing switch, checkbox and radio states without retaining input values.
  • Recover safe accessible names for otherwise empty visible headings.
  • Keep referenced labels inside a captured selection; do not expand partial selections into neighbouring control content.
  • Exclude input values, editable regions, hidden choices, option values, form names and arbitrary control attributes.
  • Bound labels and selected-choice summaries to 200 Unicode code points and show a control-simplification warning. Visible labels may still contain private information; review remains essential.

Complex tables

  • Simple tables still use Markdown grids.
  • Merged cells, uneven or headerless tables and cells with block content use explicit row/cell text when a grid would be misleading.
  • Span annotations describe source cells; cell numbers mean source order, not reconstructed columns. A table-layout warning makes this loss of layout explicit.

Clearer capture recovery

  • Chrome-internal pages now show the correct restricted-page guidance instead of expired-access guidance when Chrome withholds the tab URL.
  • A rejected capture keeps earlier sources and built Markdown in the open workspace. Return to a regular page and invoke capture again; do not reload the workspace or start a new pack to recover.
  • Help and Support distinguish blocked pages, expired access and a closed source tab.

What stays the same

  • Same two-column workspace, explicit review-before-add, source include/reorder controls and in-memory session.
  • Same PDF, DOCX, Markdown and text inputs, 10-source limit and existing file/output caps.
  • No new permissions: activeTab, contextMenus and scripting only. No tracking, accounts or persistent pack storage.
  • Ordinary page/selection capture and Preview make no source requests. The existing explicit direct-current-tab HTTPS PDF request is unchanged.
  • No OCR, new file formats, Extract Links, automatic scrolling/crawling, full dashboard fidelity or protected-viewer bypass.
